AS someone who is into Goth. I DON'T HATE people, I don't try to scare people, and I'm not a Satanist / Devil worshiper. being Goth is just a state of mind. It doesn't mean that the people are depressed or obsessed with death. I'm guessing you have never talked to a person over the age of 17+ who happens to be into Goth (yes, we do exist). Some people happen to find beauty in things considered dark.
I mean, for example, I like cemeteries. Not because they represent death but because the architecture of the foundations and that you can feel a sense of history. Think about, so many different people from all walks of life and eras of time. I find that fascinating.
Anyway, don't judge a book by a cover. Instead, try to get to know someone instead. You'd be surprised at what you can learn.
And Goth & Emo aren't the same thing. I'd explain the differences but there are plenty of examples you can look at on the web.
emos + goths are basically like anyone else, they just have a darker sense of things in life. I don't think psychological illnesses are involved, unless an emo has real personal issues with like family/friends or something.
actually, emos + goths are music-based subcultures so they're originally what ppl would call those who listen to either emotional hardcore (emo) or gothic rock (goth).
as a lifestyle, emos tend to be more emotional (cuz the music's lyrics are emotional and they can relate to emo songs) while goths see the beauty in dark and light things and are generally tolerant. in a way goths are more mature while emos are common in teen years and often dont last.
its stereotypical that all emos + goths are depressed, self-harming, whiny, life-hating sissies. those are completely not true; at least for goths, they're actually very much the opposite of that!
also dont confuse with poseurs who say they're emo/goth if they really don't listen to the music or even know what they are!
I'm not officially sure, but one day I did notice a darker instagram account and I scrolled through and saw things like society sucks and how imperfect they are... Maybe it's the way they look, they might not be as pretty or skinny as other people. I do believe some people just like the style (which I'm not trying to judge here) but they like to be looked at. Another thing I noticed while looking through this account was being bullied. Now I know some people who don't even look dark self harm or cut because of bullying. That's all I really know hopefully it helped.
